Hi guys
I have been using my Corsair GS 600 for 2 years and it worked flawlessly with my hardware including an HD 7750 2GB GDDR3 GPU. However since splurging out on a Sapphire Radeon R9 280x 3GB GRR5 2 weeks ago, the PSU is making a hell of a noise when under any strain. for web surfing, Youtube and light gaming, its dead quiet, the fan never spins. Now when I am running heavy games with the graphics cranked up to max, the PSU gets hotter, the fans spins and gives out a noise that I can only describe as a cross between whining, groaning, ticking and knocking, sort of like a car engine idling. After a few minutes it goes right through my head and makes gaming unpleasant.
I am 99% sure it's the PSU making the noise and not the new GPU, I have taken the side odd and stuck my head down to listend and the noise does seem to come from the bottom of the case where the PSU is mounted. The case is a Zalman Z9 Plus.
I am looking for something similar with a semi fanless/quiet operation that will last me quite a while. My pc is 5+ years old and doesn't have a great M/B, it's an Asrock N68S-UCC which has served me well. I would like to build a better rig sometime this year possibly an AMD Piledriver 8 core, then take any new PSU that I buy and use it in the new rig along with my GPU, possibly adding a 2nd in X-fire.
I am liking the look of this as I understand this model is actually made by Superflower.
YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £94.99
Total : £104.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).
I suspect this has way more power than I actually need right now but then I won't have to buy another when I build my new rig.
Will this fit my Zalman Z9 Plus case, my m/b and have enough modular cables for all the stuff I have fitted, namely a DVD burner, 3 HDDs, my GPU and be silent or almost silent when under any kind of load?
