Last week I picked up a new build rig, it came with a colorsit 600W PSU. It's running a Phenom 9950, a couple of sata hard drives, Zotac9600GT, 4GB Ram, a DVD-RW plus printer/ipod etc occassionally on usb.

I've been reading about some horror stories regarding this make of PSU and the poor build quality (It looks as though it's a light, sub £25 psu). The last thing I want to happen is a systemwide meltdown within the next few months. ;)

I doubt I'd need something incredibly powerful but there seems to be quite a range for the major brands such as Antec/Corsair/Enermax. Just wondering what I should be aiming for really, with some suggestions.

Cheers for any advice.

Thanks for the responses. I'm tempted with the Corsair TX650W on the weekly offer at OC, it seems to only be a few quid more than the 520. Yeah, Enermax have glowing reviews too and I like the sound of a UK based RMA (just in case). Enermax Modu82+ 625W could definately be a possibility.

I'd be looking for a quiet replacement as this current "psu" has an unusual metallic drone which doesn't fill me with confidence. :)

Roll on tomorrow....

I do have quite a small case though, so modular might be the best idea for me. You do seem to learn quite a bit from reading up on details like this. :)

I'll suggest Enermax, as they have UK based RMA :)

Thats great if you are really worried about your PSU dying, but if you get the best you really shouldn't have to worry about that :D Anermax are good, but I'd still got for a Corsiar HX - the 520 should be enough power for all your needs

After reading some more reports I decided on the HX520. It's one heavy piece of kit which oozes quality. Five year guarantee (and the recommendations here) sold it too me

It's also extremely well packaged and I'll be using the modular cables bag for shaving, toothbrush kit when I'm away from home. :p

All I need do now is wait for the Antec 300 chassis before I can fit it.

Cheers again

Yeah the warranty and build quality is what sold it to me.

I had no problems with the install today and bloomin eck it's quiet. It's also nice not having to worry about bundles of cables to hide away, a modular setup really works well. :)

All I need to do now is decide on which 120mm fans to put as intakes on the Antec 300. I like the idea of green leds so need to have a look around.
