Stuck on the A406
Hi guys,

Ive recently moved flat and unfortunately the Internetz in it totally sucks, which has kicked my wow gaming in the nuts. Not too sure what the problem is but I get anything from 200-1200 latency (usually the latter), and the entire connection drops out quite frequently.

I got so frustrated with it yesterday I installed BG2 again.

As much as I love that game, Ive already played through it a few times and Im looking for something a bit newer.

It can be action oriented (Diablo 2 style) or strategy oriented (BG2) I dont really mind which so long as it is enjoyable.

My computer is a Core2 duo T2300 with 2GB RAM and an ATI X1600 256MB card.

Any recommendations?

Ive heard planescape is great, but I feel it could be a bit old, Im looking for something a bit up to date.

I should have mentioned I have played NWN 1.

Whats NWN 2 like? Worth playing? How does it stack up to BG2?

The Witcher? Looks good.

I've just started NWN2, quite different to no.1, but mostly the GUI I think. GFX are sparkly, and character build options are very good. That's my first impressions (I'm only 90mins in).

Thanks for the responses, I think Ill take a clsoer look at titan Quest and NWN2.

Ive tried the Witcher (demo), unfortunately it doesnt run well on my computer.

Elder Scrolls: Oblivion? Needs a beefy PC but you could run it at medium I reckon.

If you like it check out Morrowind and Daggerfall, which are the older ones in the series.

P.S. I feel like a broken record here :) (not affiliated with him at all, just loved playing PS:T at 1680x1050) but the Infinity Engine games can look pretty good with the_Biggs Widescreen mod here.

And BG Tutu can make BG1 look as good as BG2 (then play in a high res too...).

P.S. Widescreen mod is a bit of a misnomer, it's really an "any res" mod, with the correct aspect ratio. So even if you have your monitor vertically (like a proof reader maybe? :) ) you can still play the game properly, albeit with a funny view of the area.

Thanks for the link! I have a widescreen monitor (1680x1050) so that should come in handy!

Temple of Elemental Evil, if you can find a copy. Make sure you patch it and then google the circle of eight fan patch too, which fixes all the bugs the official patches left behind.

Quality game once patched, feels like a tabletop D&D session.

Make sure you get a physical copy of Temple of Elemental Evil, I think I read somewhere that the direct to drive version comes pre patched making it difficult to get the mods and other patches working properly.

That was a few years ago though so maybe it's changed.

No. It's pretty awful actually.

NWN (I know you've played it but come on, it's got so much replayability its ridiculous. Try a new class, get the add-ons, etc).
BG2 + Baal's Throne
KOTOR I
KOTOR II
Icewind Dale.

Titan Quest will get boring quickly - it's only good fun if you play it with a friend over the net.

Vampire bloodlines is really choppy on my PC. I'm not sure if its badly coded or what but some of the fight scenes are very joggy. I've got a 7900GS and 3800+ with 2gb RAM and i run HL2 flawlessly
