Looking for a suitable replacement for a Nvidia G210

Hi There,

A mate of mine bought an HP machine with a quad core processor and 4GB of RAM. He is looking to replace his video card (The G210) because it doesn't really perform very well when it comes to games.

I had a look inside the machine yesterday and saw that this was a pretty small card. Would anyone have any suggestions of a better performing card of a similar size?

Preferably one that doesn't create much heat as he only has 1 extraction fan on this machine.

Cheers.

we need to know two things:

1) what's his budget?
2) What PSU does it have?

3) Will a full size card fit or will the case take low profile cards only?

Feel free to add 4) onwards anyone.

@1 He's happy to spend up to £150
@2 I think we are looking at a 300W power supply here
@3 The case is pretty medium/small size it looks exactly like the HP Pavilion P6799UK but with different specs. I don't think something like a 9800GT would fit in there.

The 4GB is all on one stick, what I am worried about is HP hardware not being compatible with anything else.

Cheers for the responses so far.

For a card that's any good at gaming you're looking at updating the PSU as well tbh. A cheapy 300w OEM psu will have a tough time handling anything more demanding than the card he already has in there. You might be able to get away with a 9800gt (The green models pull around 250w for the whole system) but it's an old card. What sort of games is your friend playing?

He wants to run Two Worlds 2 at medium/high settings.
