Afternoon all,

I want to build a website for my new band (a blink-182 tribute band, if you must know), and I want it to look how I want it.

So just wondering how you go about this? The world used to be coding the website and you'd upload it to some server and there it is. Nowadays, it's all website builders.

I would like a sort of hybrid of both: a website builder where I can start with a blank template and drop elements into it.

Can anyone make a suggestion?

Thanks,

dirtychinchilla

Start by posting in the correct forum ;)

Buy a domain and some hosting, something like the starter package on Stablepoint or similar.

Open up cPanel and install Wordpress.

Start playing around with static pages etc.

At least that's how I went about it for our band website!

Depends what you want to do, I guess. For a simple brochure type site, I’d probably go for something like Wix but if you want more complex functionality, I’d look at Wordpress.

It comes with plenty of themes and templates out of the box and a plenty of extensions and plugins to tailor your site to more specific requirements.

Look man, I'm a GD lurker. What do I know?!

P.S. thank you.

I don't want anything complex, I just don't want to be tied into someone else's template. I want something simple really!

The old school way is still perfectly valid btw.

If I still knew how to do it, I would :)

Really… you’re better off using Facebook and Twitter. Unless your selling merch which you can still do by having an Amazon seller link from your fb/twit page.

I’m seeing more and more where companies just have a page on a site then linking their social pages from it.

Thanks. We'll be doing all of the above, although not Twitter. I want it to be professional

I'm a bit of a noob with that sort of stuff. Tried Wordpress but all I managed to create was a basic blog type thing, looked like it belonged in 1995. Used Squarespace instead and it was super easy.

"Spread the word about StablePoint and earn up to £250 for each new customer that signs up through your link."

Damn. Didn't see that until after I signed up!
