Looking for a XXXX beater

Basically looking for a <<< major name >>> beater. I can get (and am the verge of buying) a Quad 9350, 8800Gt, 4GB, 500Gb and Vista Premium built for £500. No monitor

Unfortunately, this particular manufacturer locks the BIOS so no overclocking is possible. Also has pretty useless support via off-shore call centre.

So... puhleeeese can someone spec me a decent base unit. I like a quality case and probably more CPU speed than GPU. Vista included please.

you cant have a quality case and everything else you ask for £500 simply isn't possible

taking out the CMOS battery will do nothing if the manufacurer simply doesnt include o/c options in the BIOS

you'd be better off getting say:

if you can scrape another £60 together.
and it'll OC

Scraping money together is no major problem ;->

But I want quality parts. £500 seems a fair price - happy to exclude Keyboard, Mouse, OS and DVD writer !

Not tied to a quad but want a 45nm Intel.

What you want can't be done for £500. I picked a load of bits that came to £588.97 inc del but even then there were some compromises.

then maybe in a months time get a cooler for the cpu and gfx cards.

if you use my spec, jsut forget the DVD drive, as you said u have one, and bang on the Q6600, itll cost you an extra £20 or so.
