Hi all, in the process of buying parts for a first build, its going to cannibalize parts from my current desktop (graphics card, ram, hdd and disk drive) but want to buy a set of parts (motherboard, processor, PSU and heat sync) that are fairley high end and will allow for future upgrades as I go. My first set of parts I have chosen are as follows:

Processor Haswell core i7-4770K (1150)

PSU XFX Pro 850W

Heatsink Raijintek Erebos

Motherboard MSI B85-G43

However I'm told that the processor I've chosen is unlocked for overclocking but the motherboard is not and was wondering what you guys would recommend that would allow future overclocking. Also worth noting that I would like something that would give me the option to sli/crossfire at some point in time should I decide to.

I also set up a project log, http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=24978562#post24978562 just in case anyone had thoughts about what I was up to.

Thanks in advance,
Ben

What's your budget for this stage of the build?
You'd definitely want a Z87 motherboard with that processor so you can overclock.

Hey guys, yeah meant to say looking to spend maybe max £500 -550 on these bits, I want to get it running and then upgrade as I go as and when the funds become available. But I'll have a look at that board you've suggested.

Thought I'd chip in after telling you to post here.

The motherboard RJC suggested is going to the best bang for buck in your budget. If you want to match the colour of your heatsink you could go for this one. Both boards are very good but the Gigabyte is just a little ahead in benchmarks I believe.

Other than that I think you are good to go.
