Looking for advice on a system to play Flight Simulator X.

Hi all, so it's been many years since I last built a PC ( 20 years maybe ), I'm open to pre built or purchasing the parts to build my own system. The main aim is purely for playing Flight Simulator X along with some addons that add higher textures etc as smoothly as possible for my budget ( I believe this may require as good a CPU as possible as the game relies heavily on that from what I have read)

Looking at what parts are available it's a little bit daunting so advice is welcome from all areas.

I have a budget of around £700 ( I know, I'm a cheapskate but needs must)

I only require the system, no monitor or OS are needed.

Thanks in advance
Rob

It sounds like you've been out of the loop for a while (since ~1999)

Unless you have extraordinary resolution requirements or there's something very different about flight simulators compared with regular PC games, then I'd suggest just about any decent system from within the last 10 years will be able to smash FS X.

For £700 there'll be some good options, and I'm sure some system builder types will be along shortly to show how best to maximise that £700, though they will be interested to know what monitor/resolution you intend to work with.

flight sim X is first about core speed! Game will be moving to Vulkan soon enough to take advantage of More Cores/threads but currently still single/dual core bound

VRam , game likes VRam depending on what settings you use!

also, go with the most powerful GPU you can afford ! Most FSX goers are rocking £400 plus cards with a lot on Flagships. There are tens of options and mods to change detail and simulation settings which can have a big impact on GPU and CPU usage .

X- Plane 10 is even worst! and as a heads up, most have switched to X-P10 or P3D as its a better Simulator

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £711.59 (includes shipping: £11.70)

normally intel is stronger but more costly and 2 cores should boost up to 4.2ghz which will help

I'll be damned, obviously there's something VERY different about FS X compared with every other type of 'game'.

Thanks for the advice and heads up about P3D, P3D however looks to be a heavy investment, X-Plane looks the better option. As someone once said " we need a bigger PC "
