OK so I'm a bit of a noob here and am looking to build a new computer for gaming and i havent done this in quite a few years, primarily it will just be for the new final fantasy 14 but im also looking into getting into fps and maybe a few rpgs. basically I'm just looking for advice on what I've chosen, I have also gone a bit ott on what my price range was but it seemed worth it. The build im looking at is listed below, getting the price down would be good but also if there is major benefits to buying an upgraded part or 2 i don't mind paying a little extra for it. I would also like to know what sort of overclocking capabilities this build is going to have aswell.

Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail £229.11
(£194.99) £229.11
(£194.99)
MSI GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199.99

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit - OEM (GLC-00736) £155.09

Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard £143.98

OCZ Gold Low Voltage 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C10 2000MHz Triple Channel (OCZ3G2000LV6GK) £129.24
(£109.99) £129.24

(£53.61) £62.99
(£53.61)
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA-II 64MB Cache - OEM (WD10EARS) £49.98
(£42.54) £49.98
(£42.54)
Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £48.99
(£41.69) £48.99

Sony Optiarc AD-7260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.99
(£13.61) £15.99
(£13.61)

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to spend some time on this

PS. total noob with pc cooling :o
edit: will be running this into a hdtv and was a bit confused with whether it had hdmi output on the graph card

the harddrive you have picked is a slow one, change it to either the black version, samsung F3 or seagate barracuda 7200.12

also the ram you picked sucks, with to many bad experiences being posted across the net.

Also consider if you really need all the features of win 7 ultimate and spend the money on a better case like the antek 902 or nzxt tempest evo.

Try this ram:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-008-PA

You can either take Stulid's excellent advice on the hard drive or (depending upon your budget) buy a SSD to use as the boot disk and the WD blue as a storage drive like:
Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-007-CR&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=

Enough space to put windows, your essential apps and a couple of games on.:)

I would also advise on saving a wedge on going for Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Unless you think that you are going to be using data encryption a lot and a whole host of other top end stuff that you won't actually use with the Ultimate edition. :)

I use the above mentioned method of drives ie. a SSD for OS and a couple of Seagate 7200.12's for games and Steam... works well! :)

OK, so im gunna change down the ultimate to home premium,i guess that was a bit stupid, but i was gettting tired xD.

I don't think im going to go for a SSD,I would rather wait until they are a bit bigger in storage space without paying stupid prices. but as for the HDD i went for the 7200.12s, lower average seek time

I have changed the RAM to the one reccomended by dfour and also went for the antec 902.

So now my main worry left is the gpu, the extra fan on it is good obviously for airflow, but im not sure on the outputs on it,anyone able to confirm standard hdmi or is it one of these mini ones, also is there any difference with that or do i just have to buy a different cable. Oh yeh,i dnt mind spending a bit extra on gpu's if its worth it but i would rather stick to nvidia. the tv im connecting it to will be the 40" samsung 200hz LED one, cant remember which series,if that should make a difference

Oh and thankyou for the advice so far

just noticed the hydro h70 is only £20 more than the h50, is this worth getting with this build. i googled about the gpu's outputs turns out it is mini hdmi, hopefully the coversion cable is included and of good quality (hdmi 1.3+).

It only worth getting if your going to be overclocking the hell outa the cpu. If you add one more fan to the H50 you can get 95%+ of the performance of the h70.

You should be able to get 4 gig+ out of the cpu and the MSI 460 should be able to hit above 900 for the core to answer the overclocking question. Obviously everyones milage will vary even with the same kit. HDMI 1.3 is standard atm so should have no problem with your tv I cant say for definate as I dont own a 460.

Are you planning to go SLI in the future?? If you not you could scale the PSu down to a 750 to save a little more cash. My rig runs of the HX750 with a custom build water cooling rig being powered as well without any problems.

ok kl, i will be updating at sme point yes. id rather spend a few extra pounds now instead of paying the same again for a more powerful psu.which is also applicable with upgrading the h70?

Also isnt there a benefit to going for the Win 7 home RETAIL edition? If what Ive read is correct, technically you can only use the OEM version on one PC. The retail allows you to reinstall on an upgraded PC.

Saying that I'm pretty sure I've bought the OEM versions of Windows before and have simply had to ring up some reactivation phone number to get it to work again after a major system upgrade.

Can other members clarify this either way please so I don't give duff info?

ok,so the adavntages of a modular PSU are? any you can recommend also?

As for the copy of windows i didnt realise there would be difficulty with reinstalling if needed? say if i got a SSD at a later date would i then need to buy again?

as for the keyboard and mouse stated in my last post i was thinking that id need a decent surround headset aswell and id like to keep it under £1350 with delivery.

oh and i checked on the nvidia website and it seemed according to them that the 460 perfrmed better than the 470, would it be better for me to get one of those though

the big advantage is you only use the cables you need, a 850w psu will be packed with cables and connectors that will need tucking away.

,so how much of a diffference will the 470 make

lots,

ok i shall go for a 470 then, which one is the best to go for at under £240?

Might aswell go for the PSU aswell since iv been told the system wont pull 850 anyway and that does actually save me some money.

ok thankyou stulid, would have made quite a few mistakes without this forum, alright so now im up to £1,223 so £130 to go on a mouse and headset, possibly a keyboard too but i dont really see much advantage from using my old n trusty labtec compact usb one i got for like £7 a few years ago.
