Hello,

I bought this pc from overclockers a few years ago and am now getting to the point where i want to upgrade.

the system is as follows:

Abit IP-35 Pro mobo
Intel Q6600 @3ghz
4gb Ocz RAM
8800gts
600w psu

So ive been looking into what i would love to upgrade to but i cannot afford to do it all at once. I'm hoping i can just start upgrading pieces bit by bit. What i would love to know first off is can i replace the mobo with "Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R" and will all my current hardware still be compatible ie, processor, graphics card etc?

I would then like to move onto the graphics card (thinking of the 5870) and then finally updating the processor to the new i range of intels.

Any info would be appreciated.

Your current cpu will not be compatable with the EX58-UD3R due to the Q6600 being socket 775 & X58 being socket 1366 and used with the i7 cpu's.

Have you thought about the i5 750 or the AMD 955, both of which will require a motherboard upgrade and memory upgrade (the AMD can be used with ddr2 motherboards)

Damn it, Q6600 is still a nice piece of hardware, get your hands busy with overclocking it to 3.6GHz or so, buy a better cooling if necessary and add Radeon 5850 to it. You couldn't end up much better with an upgrade of approx. 240 quid.

What PSU have you got there?

looks like i may have got something mixed up then, i was looking at just upgrading he g crad but it seemed everything nowadays is pci-e 2.1, as my mobo only has pci-e 1.0 i keep reading that it produces some sort of bottleneck for the newer cards. Hence looking into the mobo upgrade. This true?

psu is a corsair, TX650.
