at the minute I have an i5 4690k my gpu Is an xfx r9 390x and I have 8gb of memory. the reason im looking to upgrade is because I got ACS today and the game has shutdown a couple of times because my rig said im low on memory (it actually conveyed the words through my speakers :O... ).

am I being bottle necked by the memory or cpu ? thinking of buying an i7 and 16gb of memory.

do you guys think I need to? if so what would you recommend?

Your spec looks pretty decent. Sounds like the game has a memory leak. It's a relatively new game and such a bug is not uncommon. If you aren't having problems with any other games I would hold off of any upgrades and wait and see if ACS gets patched.

Is AC Syndicate poorly optimized? how do other games run, you have a pretty decent spec.

think it is poorly optimized, turned the settings to very high and it didn't happen again. other games work fine with the odd framerate drop/ slow motion, been thinking of upgrading again to put some finishing touches on it to get rid of the drops altogether.

Upgrading to 16GB RAM can't hurt, memory prices are in a good place at the moment. Also consider a SSD (if you don't already have one). Whilst this won't improve your framerates it does make things smoother in any game which needs to load textures, maps, zones etc on the fly. Not sure if upgrading from the i5-4690k to an i7 will give you much extra, the 4690k should be mor than capable of handling any current game at 1080p.

If you want to get to the bottom of this, monitor your GPU memory and system memory while in game. Something like MSI Afterburner should do. Then you'll see if one or both are getting close to max.

As above I wouldn't start buying until you know what's causing the crashes.

I think I will use the performance tab of windows task manager with my monitors set to " extend these displays ".

will be memory leak from ***** game.

you could just upgrade your ram to 16gb.all rest is fine.

I just made a thread in bundle/system support to see how long is left on my warranty, don't want to send my rig back to have just ram fitted. got till November next year lol and I feel ok with being able to re-do my water cooling loop if I had to.

You have to send it back to have RAM fitted? That's crazy. If a component went faulty and they blamed it on you fitting RAM, I'd take the seller to court personally/

If it says you're out of RAM, you're probably out of RAM ;)

Do you have your pagefile disabled or set to a small size? Do you have other stuff running while playing? You can grab another 8GB ram for less than you paid for the game...

the warranty mainly concerns the core parts of a system ... ram , mobo, psu , gpu and cpu. the rest is all systems go if you can do it.

it happened again, for the purpose of monitoring the memory usage for both the ram and cpu I set it back to ultra and had my dual screen set up, occasionally glancing at the performance tab of task manager.

the cpu was a lowest of 23% , a highest of about 80% and average of 50-70%.

ram clocked in at about 30% on game start up and slowly climbed up until I heard the sound notification for the low memory message, at the time task manager said it was 93% on the ram usage. just bought 16gb of this ... https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...00c10-2400mhz-dual-channel-kit-my-054-tg.html

turns out im ok to fit ram myself

so until the new ram is in I will have to suffer with " very high " settings (lol)

This has all the symptoms of a memory leak. Hopefully it'll get patched soon.

The 16GB RAM you've bought is still a good move, it can only help your system. Whilst it won't cure the memory leak it might at least delay the point at which you run out of memory to something more bearable.

the extra ram has greatly improved the play time on ultra but the leak will still cause it to close because of low memory at some point. also found that quitting to main menu resets the leak so I can gain more time. just need to keep monitoring and doing that until the Richard heads patch it.
