Looking for an X-COM type game

Hi guys,

I've got UFO Aftermath and Aftershock and decided to dust them off. Unfortunately they're set at 1024x768 resolution that looks terrible on my 24" Dell and constantly crash. Are there any other games of this type worrth looking at? I'm looking for the whole "turn based" sort of thing with a strong RPG element. I love improving the stats and focussing on certain skills. So I guess I'm not necessarily looking for a Sci-Fi type game ...
