Looking for cheap or free web hosting, who??

Looking to host a web site for a friend, he is just starting uni and does not have any money!! My own web site www.westlowmere.co.uk is hosted by 3ix in the states which is the cheapest I have found, anyone one know free ones that are problem free? Any help would be appriciated.

What does he need it for?
If its any sort of portfolio/place for displaying uni work then you're best to pay for it.
Free hosting looks very unprofessional.

I wasn't, but if you could post some better value hosts, with a similar level of service, I might change my mind.

At least you know what you're getting, and there's none of that 'unlimited' nonsense. Also, I took advantage of the 11p hosting offer they did last year, which someone posted on here. I renewed the hosting last month. So, for two years hosting, it has cost me £10 a year.

Have you ever tried cancelling one with them?

I cancelled mine 6 months before the end of the contract knowing they need 3 months notice.

Had no reply from them, over the next 3 months I contacted them once a week to try and cancel it. 11 weeks before the end of the contract I finally get confirmation that my contract was terminated.

2 weeks later, I get a bill for another years hosting.

Lots of letters from debt collectors, advice from CAB etc. had to pay in the end as I didn't want it effected credit rating as I was after a mortgage!

+1 for tsohost. I use them and they've been great. Another one is vidahost I see bounced around these forums from time to time, though I've never used them myself.

IMO Tsohost aren't as good since they changed their managment console. However they still have very good CS.
