Hello, I was wondering if I could pick some Citrix knowledge:

I have a Tried looking into this but had little joy and do not have anyone I know with good Citrix knowledge so I thought I'd throw this out here. I am going to be working on a project where we are going to stream a show via flash through a browser into a company that consists mostly of dumb terminals and a Citrix back end. the account handler has been communicating with the client and was advised that 100 users would kill the servers if each of them watched the show, now i have not spoken to their Citrix team yet and that is being arranged but I thought I could put this to you guys, would it be possible to share a single browser instance between all terminals? so that there is one entry point and only one application running yet viewed by multiple screens.

I hope this makes sense and any advice would be greatly appreciated

best regards

From my knowledge of Citrix I'd say 'No'. Essentially you would run 100 copies of IE as each session is specific to the individual and not shared (it would be pointless sharing it as if the person went to another website then it would affect all people).

The only thing you could do is install extra servers into the Citrix farm but this is going to take time and have a cost associated with it.

One other alternative is to run show over several days and give different logon details so that you don't have all the users on there at the same time.

Thank you for getting back to me, what you say makes perfect sense, and i see how that works. Unfortunately this is a live interactive show so it will have to be done all in one go. Installing more servers would not be feasible, i am just thinking if there is a way to point all the terminals to a single browser yet without knowing their infrastructure setup it is hard to plan, guess i will just wait for a conf call and see if they have any thoughts.

thank you again

Sadly I don't think it's going to be feasible. You'd also need to look into the terminals themselves as some may not even have audio capabilities.

I could get flash to work on my old Citrix environment fine with around 300 concurrent users (though not all of them were using flash they were using multiple applications) it's just that I don't think it's the right environment to be doing that kind of thing.

You're better of hiring a place out and doing it that way or trying to utilise meeting rooms and getting people around one session.

with the new version of XenApp 6.5 and client and the hdx feature you can redirect flash content from server to the local machine, but from what I read you want to publish IE on the server and deploy it that way. It could be done but require a lot of tweaking.

You can redirect flash with any version of XenApp, client to server or server to client.

As for the question being asked here as others have said, no it is not possible. Each machine would create a new client connection to the server.

Also for future reference there is a dedicated forum for Servers and Enterprise Solutions.
