Hi not to sure what to look for as alienware seem bit overpriced, just looking for a decent laptop to play games on as need something can store away during the day which rules using my pc out. looking spend 800 to 1200 at a push but rather the right side of 1k. Anyone got any good recomendations?

thanks in advance

Stuff tends to cost more over here, the market is smaller, demand is lower, and VAT is country wide rather than statewide.

Either way, even with the i5, its still a good machine. MSI and other brands also tend to do quite a lot of similarly named variants as well.

I'nm leaning towards the MSI GX740 myself due to the fact i want a gaing laptop to replace my desktop pc to cut down space in my living room. I play ps3 and 360 more so i wanted a lappy that can play some games like starcraft 2, stalker and crisis. I like the look of alienware but for a laptop anywhere near the MSI GX740 spec its £1500+.

I've been looking at a laptop around this price too. Main use for me would be photo processing and some CAD, but I'd also like to do some gaming. I had looked at the MSI GX740 which looks right up my street, but I don;t like the comments about the screen on some reviews. Doesn't look like it's that good for general use?

yeah that and the cntrl key in the wrong place is seriously putting me off is there any similar alternatives? would gladly spend an extra 100 or so just for those 2 problems

looking at the alienware mx15 bit more then would have liked to spend but looks really nice any thoughts?

Id give the alienware a miss its way overpriced your paying for the name

If you pay full price off their website maybe. I got myself an Alienware m15x with quadcore i7 cpu, 4GB ram, 500gb hdd, blueray, 260gtx gpu for under a grand from a well know auction site.

It's in mint condition and I will be extending the warranty for another year for just over £100 with Dell.

I've also been looking at the MSI GX660, albeit a branded version on a competitor site. Quite a good spec for £1099 (with i5-450M) but I haven't found much feedback on the screen. I don't like the orange LED shenanigans much either!

The GX chassis is not great, have had a few replacements for my GX620. also the keyboard across the range is pretty poor with IMO far to much play in it. Other than these issues my 620 has been pretty good.

Just to clarify the build on the GX620 didn't allow me to keep it as my main working laptop for the 12 months I would have liked. It was around 8 months before it needed to be replaced with something new, on the plus side though chassis parts are cheap.

I just extended the NBD onsite warranty on my new m15x by 3 years for the special price of £179.99 - bargain.

Dell are doing a special at the moment so if you did get a cheap Alienware with less than a year left on the warranty, you can extend it cheaply.

And that's next business day onsite warranty not the usual send back to base.
