I have looked on the net and have quite a long list of games to look at, but to narrow it down I would really appreciate any possible choices you might have for a good game (I already have The Long Dark, which I enjoy).

Stranded deep is decent. Also definitely look into the forest.

Fade to silence has recently come out its survival rpg Might be worth a look.

OK TY all look good and added to my wishlist, but going to hold off on "Fade To Silence" until it's on sale and more reviews are in, but TY for the ideas.

A lot here to keep me going for quite awhile :) .

The Forest
Subnautica
Frostpunk
Rim World
Raft
Don't Starve
Rust (not my sort of game, but other people enjoy it)
This War of Mine
7 Days To Die

Kenshi is worth a look, the visuals are a little dated and it feels a bit clunky at times, but the world has an awesome bleak atmosphere and harsh setting that really draws you in. Just managing to survive out on your own and make a self sufficient base feels like an accomplishment.

The Division has a survival mode which is pretty hardcore - though it isn't so active these days so you might find it takes awhile before you get a game.

Subnautica

One problem I have with Subnautica - I don't want to replay it because it would feel like one of those movies where at the end it is revealed or hinted that the main character hasn't actually escaped at all!

Although an excellent survival game I wasn't a fan of some of the mechanics - pure survival mode didn't have a good balance between the demands of food/water either being so great it stunted your enjoyment of the game or so low it might as well not have been a mechanic. While freedom mode was much more enjoyable as just dealing with oxygen levels felt far more organic and scaled well with the game as you progressed - usually pressing enough you had to keep it in mind and plan for it with your intended next few moves but not so pressing it got in the way of doing anything else. (Though on the plus side atleast it supported the different variants depending on people's tastes).
