Hey Guys,
New to the forums, thought I would sign up and look for some help/advice on trying to fix the issue I am having with my cpu temps. My system set up is as follows:
i5 2550k @ 3.4ghz
GTX 770 2gb
16gb ram
Cooler: OcUK H2Flo Liquid Single Fan CPU Cooler ( with Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 120mm fan)
After running CPUID monitor last week, I noticed that my temps were looking extremely high especially when gaming. Temps were idle at around 60, going up to around 75-85 when browsing the web and watching streams, and then when I was playing games such as Guild Wars 2 or Call of Duty WW2, I noticed my temps would be 90 - max. My pc or games were not crashing, so I am not sure how long this has been going on but for the past few days I have limited what I do as I do not want to destroy my CPU etc.
Now I bought the system back in 2012 from OcUK, and have not really changed much other than adding in more ram and upgrading my graphics card etc. and not knowing a lot about computers I was not sure what could be the issue as I said I don't get any system crashes etc. My fans are running, and I believe I can still feel slight vibrations in the tubing of the water cooling, although the pump feels warm to touch (not sure if normal).
I went and purchased some thermal paste, went with Arctic Silver 5 which also came with the thermal material remover and surface purifier. Now since removing the old paste and replacing it, seems my temps are worse. I have tried at least 5 times, trying different methods; small pea size dot, a line. However they all seem to give the same results or worse, which could be down to how I am applying it. I make sure the heat sink is screwed in tight, so it does not move..and the radiator has been cleaned from dust as are the fans, honestly I regularly clean out my pc anyway so dust was never an issue.
I have no idea what to do next, is it just me failing badly at applying thermal paste to my cpu or do you think something else could be causing the temps, perhaps my cooler has had it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.
Cheers
***UPDATE 06-03-2078 installed new Corsair H80i v2 and temps are perfect now, seems like my old pump had died. Thanks for tips anyway
