hi,i bought all the bits i needed to build my first pc today, never built one before,as expected i tried to power her up and it failed.i got the front led's of the tower flash for a nano second, but after that nothing,no noises or sounds as im a noob i dont really know what im looking for to fix this issue,i have checked what i can,cpu is in properly, graphics card sems to be also, triple memory is in right slots, power supply was turned on ect.now im stuck, best to unplug everything and start again?

Might be a stupid question mate but you havent just screwed the motherboard to the case have you? IE not put the little gold legs on the case before the board?

i have an 8 pin thats like a 2x4(2 4pins) that looks like it could connect to the available 8pin slot on the motherboard, but the sides of the lug are a lil different,i had origionaly got just 1 4 pin in.

ok fixed,it was the 8 pin,i only had half plugged in(1 of the 2 4 pins),i now have another slight problem, when it was loading up i saw a message saying new psu or cpu detected(forgot what one lol) and it said no hard drive detected, any ideas?i have 6 sata 3gb ports labelled from 1-6,the hard drive is plugged into number 3 and the dvd rom into sata port number 4,a fan was stopping me putting these to port 1 and 2,could this be the problem?

yes, although there is an available 4 pin on the back of the hdd also, could that be something ive overlooked? (Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache) <-- that hdd

nope, thats a different/older power connector...

Try making sure all the SATA cables are properly pushed in as some of them can pop out quite easily when ur fiddling round inside the case
