Looking for ideas for a new system

I am in the process of speccing up a new system to replace my AMD64 X2 4400. I am traditionally an AMD + NVidia guy but the only spec I can seem to come up with at the moment is AMD + ATI (and no I won't do Intel).

This is my current plan but I am ideally looking for some suggestions to change it from AMD + ATI to AMD + NVidia

1x AMD PHENOM X4 9950 4MB SKT-AM2+ 3600MT/s BLACK EDITION
1x Asus M3A79-T Deluxe
2x OCZ Reaper HPC 4gb (2x 2gb) PC2-8500 5-5-5-18 DDR2
2x Asus 1GB Radeon HD 4850 PCI Express 2.0 Retail
1x OCZ Technology 30GB SATA 2.5" SSD V2
4x 400GB Western Digital WD4000YS Caviar
1x Adaptec AAR 2420SA 4 Ports SATA II RAID Controller
1x Tagan TG700-BZ Modular 700 Watt PSU
1x Antec 900 Case

The SSD will be for the host OS, the 1.6TB Hardware RAID will be used for the entire networks media shared over samba (haven't decided whether to go with RAID5 or RAID 0+1 yet).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Need a budget.

why wont you "do intel" .?

I don't do Intel because I try to be an ethical consumer. Intel's anti-competitive behaviour over the past 20 years have done nothing but damage the market and some of us are old enough to remember how they destroyed the CPU market leaving only 2 major players not to mention dodgy deal with certain well known software vendors (and hardware vendors) to make stuff play nice with Intel CPUs/Chipsets for certain benefits (if you don't know what I am talking about go read the multiple anti-trust cases Intel have been "involved" in around the world).

So no, I don't do Intel and never will - I am AMD all the way.

Budget is around 1k but there are certain must haves.

The RAID Controller needs to be either the 2420 or a MegaRAID 300 as hardware raid is essential given the work the machine will do (the 1420 is a host controller which is kind of in between a hardware and software raid).

System can't be Intel based (for reasons noted above in my last post).

I would prefer the Series 2 OCZ SSD.

I do like that you went with the 640GB Caviar Blues though certainly an option I never considered.

so just for the simple reason of Intel's anti-competitive behaviour, your going to comprimise on your computer.?

sounds just silly to me :p
Whether it seems silly to you or not is irrespective. I have very strong ethics and principles - what you see as silly as I see as being non hypocritical. Half the problems in the world are caused by unethical consuming as most of these companies would either have to change their business practises or go bust if more people were less selfish and realised that they can take their business else where.

So you see me as silly - whereas I see people like you who do buy from these companies as both selfish and terribly unethical. So before you start to criticise me, maybe you should take a good long look in the mirror.

Fair enough :)
