Looking for intel i5/680 set up

Budget? Usage?

Why not AMD- They offer excellent value for money, or if you really want nVidia then a 670 is very close to the 680 and will save you some cash...

Do you need an OS, peripherals?

Use the windows 8 enterprise evaluation edition for free on a 3 month trial. Then you can buy the OS later having made an informed decision. Maybe look to get an SSD at the same time to install it to ;)

The 7870XT is closely related to the 7950, you can OC it to net 7950 performance. The windowed Shinobi comes with two fans installed, the non windowed variant only has one
