Back Story: My parents just came back from New Zealand / Australia, they were there for 3 months camping and took many photos, he has quite a decent Sony camera, although I don't know the exact model. Nether the less, he was very disappointed when looking at the photos on his computer when he returned, the photos however look great on the camera, so he believes it is down to the very old budget monitor he has.

Anyway I get a phone call saying he has looked into photo monitors, though they are around £500+, so what would I recommend, I haven't bought a monitor in years myself so I don't have a clue really. Can anyone suggest a monitor that would be good for looking at pictures, that is perhaps up to £300, it doesn't have a to be a big monitor I think he current one is 22" maybe.

Thanks

All 4K and IPS (nicer colours and more viewing angles). 4K in case his Sony camera is taking pics at 4K. You could be perfectly happy with either of the two Acers (24" or 27"), or maybe wait for an offer on the Dell 24". They tend to have better support and arguably build quality.

If his camera takes pics @ 1080 then a £150-ish IPS screen is more than enough quality. But I've also included some fancier models in the basket below:

I have the Asus MX239H and it's great. I've also played with the Asus VX239H and it's pretty much the same, just not so much brightness range (not an issue as I had to lower Brightness on mine to 40) and the speakers aren't as loud*.

* Don't count on using the speakers for sound, as despite being slightly louder, they are still rubbish monitor speakers.
