Looking for games with "Grounded" combat, the best way i think to explain it

by this i mean its:
  • fluid
  • meaningful
  • counterable
  • fairly realstic
  • Fun
  • Smooth
  • not janky
Games that meet this as an example
  • God of war
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • Sifu
  • Red Dead Redemption (push)
  • shadow of mordor/war
  • WWE 2K (arguably)
  • AC Origins (push)

games that dont meet this
  • saints row (remaster
  • spiderman (to arcadey)
  • devil may cry
  • no dark sould/elden ring

I really recommend the wolfenstein games.
I found the combat, though mainly gunning it to be very enjoyable

Can pick them up for peanuts too. I cant remember the order of the games, but the old and new order ones are excellent.

I'd recommend trying the Jedi Fallen Order games. The first one can be picked up cheap, the second is available via EA Play Pro at £14.99pm and will likely end up on EA Play standard at £3.99pm by end of February. If a laser sword. can be classed as realistic but it has blocks, counters etc and you can't just spam the attack button.

Wow, what an adventure. Absolutely fantastic game! Incredible, immersive world, tactile and satisfying movement and gunplay. Tons of action and explosions.

You actually feel like you're in the world, it's very well done. Even the quieter moments inside facilities felt so immersive and reminded me of older 1st person games like Half Life 2 for some reason.

One of the rare occasions where I feel sad finishing a game as I enjoyed it that much. Underrated game imo.

yeh i got avater for free but its first person i tried to like it but didnt grab me.

Destiny 2
tried dislike it, not big fan of bullet sponge mechanics

tried the jedi games, they were "ok" to much bad map control for me

Have you tried Witcher III Wild Hunt?
got over 800 hours into it :P

This depends a lot on your level. If you are under-levelled then everything is a bullet sponge.

Having said that, they changed the game with the latest update (Lightfall) and everything became even more of a bullet sponge.

I loved the game but stopped playing after Lightfall.

It's still a really good game, but mainly if you are in a team. I just wouldn't really call it solo friendly any more.

Destiny 2 is difficult to get in to but addictive when you do.

Trepang 2 would fit the bill. It’s fast and fun. The Steam videos show you precisely how it runs so you’ll get a good idea if it’s for you or not.

not a bad shout, might retry it, i played the demo & thought it was interesting but not big fan of First person games anymore getting too old :D

I always found the combat quite clunky and slow but maybe that's because I was bad at the game
they rebuilt the combat little bit after release, but it can be clunky in places true. but overall its decent.

i just want somthing that feels good ideally with weight & can be counterable. eg god of war has a shield & many ways to counter attacks

sad thing is if dark souls wasnt terribly janky & no counter mechanics i think it be up my street

I know you say no souls like - but the best combat I've played in recent years goes to Sekiro. Although a FromSoftware game and looks like Dark Souls, the combat is completely different and rewards learning the very few mechanics provided.

I really enjoyed the combat in Horizon Zero Dawn - pretty fast paced, fluid, mix of bow/melee (although quite weighted towards bow), and most of the higher level enemies need different tactics to take down effectively

Assasin's Creed - Odyssey, This game is pretty good, didnt know they were open world like this, first one i've played and working my way through it, combat is decent. Elden ring/Souls/Sekiro are the king though, not sure why you are dismissing fromsoftware games, they are proper good.
