My 5 year old PC is showing its age now. I have upgraded the GPU a few times but that is it.
The main reason I need an upgrade isn't because it is slow, but because my ASUS P8Z68-V motherboard is "malfunctioning". The USB ports on the board (and even with the front panel ports) are faulty. USB 3 has never worked for me so those ports are pretty much dead and the remaining ports just feel lacking. They often suffer from random disconnections, very poor file transfers and frequent "The device you have plugged in has malfunctioned".
Gaming performance is fine, I've had no real problems with that, but I think it is time for an upgrade. I am unsure what to buy which gives me better performance, isn't too expensive and can do me for a few more years.
My full current specs are:
Operating System Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU Intel Core i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
RAM 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC. P8Z68-V LX (LGA1155)
Graphics 3072MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (XFX Pine Group)
Audio ASUS Xonar DGX Audio Device
1000w PSU
I did originally think about getting this bundle and then 2 sticks of this ram. But it all nearly comes to £400.
My budget is around £400 to be fair, but that is in the extreme case and I was hoping to get more out of it than a mild performance increase and functional USB ports. But to be clear, I do want to bin this board, I am aware I can get PCI-E USB boards but the last one of them I bought and tried literally caught fire when I turned on the PC!
Any ideas?
