I am looking up grade my old socket 939 set-up which currently has 3 60GB IDE drives. Would i be daft trying to get a motherboard with IDE and instead just sell the 3 drives, get a 250ish SATA one and then not worry about the IDE compatibility of the MB?

My gigabyte AMD mobo has one IDE port and I found it useful until I bought some SATA drives. With the price of hard drives ATM it may be a good idea to have one, or a cheap used IDE raid card to boot from.

Thinking about it, i have a IDE DVD RW drive so i would have to replace that as well wouldnt I. bugger that then starts to eat into an already small budget for the rest of things.

An IDE add in card you say..... that would be something to consider, thanks for the tip.

But it looks like it is possible to get a newer AM3 board, albeit 2nd hand with at least one IDE port, so thats good to know. Least i have options.
