So, looking for a new telly.

Size 37 to 42"
1080p
Prefer built in freeview HD

Don't really know the difference between LCD/plasma/LED. I still use a crt TV...

Main usage is watching TV and watching films.

Max budget 400

Done some browsing on the bay and found these. Anything here worth considering?

LG 42PA4500 - 369.99
Hannspree SE40LMNB - 329.99
Toshiba Regza 37BV701B - 254.99
LG 37LE4500 - 329.99
Samsung LE40D503F7W - 289.98 (refurbished)
SONY KDL-40BX42 - 299.98 (refurbished)

I would go for a 32-37 inch screen for that budget. LG are good for your price range.

as for the plasma / LED / LCD...

go to your local currys /comet and go look at their displays, plasmas are nice but its not for everyone so see if you like it.

LED backlit tvs have a large amount of input delay i find, I would get a LCD over a LED. also cheep LED TVs dont have good viewing angles.

Both plasma and LCD have their pros and cons.

Plasma does not suffer from limited viewing angles, LCD does.
Plasmas have much better contrast ratios, blacks are really blacks, response times are fantastic as well.

Older plasma Tv`s have been known to suffer from burn in issues, but it has been sorted to a degree with latest plasma technology, and TV channels removing branding during the adverts.

Plasmas use more electricity than LCD or LED.

I had Samsung and LG plasma, that were priced same as your budget is, i would stay away from both Samsung and LG at that price range as i had huge issues with both.

I now have Panasonic smart TV S31B model, and its fantastic, seen them on sale at Comet for 399
