Hi guys

Have just resolved a mainboard issue that took my pc offline for just over a week. Was looking at the HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro ICEQ3 Turbo 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (AGP) and wanted to get it whilst it was on this week only. But yeah I missed it thanks to this problem. I see the Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) is on sale this week. Is it as good?

The main question is whether I will see a huge improvement over my current card (see sig below). I added the toys I wanted to the basket when the mainboard problem was looking terminal and it came to £972. I nearly cried. Really wanted a quick upgrade to last me 6-12 months. Is this worth it?

On a side note to Gibbo: If the HIS one is the preferred one would you considering letting me buy it at last weeks sale price? :D Spent a small fortune ringing your tech support fellas.....hehe. I have grown at least 7 more grey hairs this week and I am damned if I am going for the Grecian 2000 at 34 :)

I think you would see quite a nice improvement if you bought a X1950 Pro over your current card. The CPU you have might pull it back a bit however. What resolution do you game at?

Sapphire is a cracking card also, only difference is its clocked slower than the HIS as its only 580 core, and 1400 memory, where the HIS is 620 core, 1480 memory, but your probably best of with the saffy anyway due to the major problem of the PCI-E power connectors not fitting the HIS cards, loads of ppl have had to file/sand them down to get them to go in as they just wont fit, the saffy however uses a normal 4x pin molex so wont have the problems, and it will be an astonishing performance boost from your 6800 GT, you'll be totally blown away by it. :)

Battlefield 2 at 1600*1200 and Eve Online in 1920*1200 with 1 window/fullscreen or 3 x 1024*768 when using multiple accounts.

**EDIT** What do you think of the HIS over the Sapphire? Much difference? Sapphire has some quite nice reviews from buyers.

Didn't see your reply when I did that edit Loadsa. Thanks for replies though guys, very useful. I can feel the credit card calling my name. :D

Always liked Sapphire myself & the card is great. X1950pro is a big improvement over your current card. Should go good with that 3500+.

With regard to providing enough power for it. I have a Jeantech 500w psu with 18A on the 12v rail. Is that going to be beefy enough for this AGP version? I have a spare PSU which is an Enermax 550w with 24A on the 12v rail which I can switch out if I absolutely have to but am planning to upgrade to a Corsair 620 when I have spare cash. Would the Jeantech cope?
