I bought a DGM monitor some years ago which I am still using but over the years its got dimmer and dimmer, the colours don't look right any more and a dark patch has appeared near the top of the screen. in short, it is upgrade time.

I am looking for -

  • 24" Monitor
  • IPS panel
  • 1920 x 1200 resolution
I don't need on-board speakers but useful extras would be USB hub. Thinking of this Dell.

My budget is a bit vague but if we looked at £300 as a starting point that ought to help. What does anyone suggest. I was looking at Dell but will happily consider other makes.

if you look around you can still pick up a HP ZR24W

It's IPS, very low input lag, good colours and sRGB so better for normal use and gaming. The Dell you linked to is optimised for adobeRGB which can give some issues unless you're doing photo work.

Oh looks like the Dell should be fine in sRGB mode as well, the older ones usually had issues :p

So why do People recommend the 2412M over the U2413, is it just that the U2413 isn't worth it for the extra cash?

Do you think it may be worth waiting for newer 24" screens to come from dell before putting down the cash for a new screen?

Nick, I bought the cheaper Dell on the basis that nothing I do requires the extended colour gamut that the U2413 has. Sure it has a USB 3 hub and whatever but the U2412M seem s just fine to me - sharp, great colours, very good black and no ghosting in games.

Waiting could be a mugs game. Whatever you are waiting for in this line there is always a better and greater thing coming soon. It would be easy to never buy anything on that basis. If you need a monitor at the moment the U2412M takes some beating though it is £30 more this week as it is not discounted any more.

Purchased 2x U2412M's couple weeks ago, very happy with them! We have the 2413's at work but I'm more than happy with the 2412's!

If people are looking for 1920x1200 res, I wouldn't recommend anything else at the moment :) Solid stand for it, but I will be looking to get a dual screen mount in the coming weeks.

It's almost always possible to get it for around £200 if you look carefully. I picked mine up elsewhere just after Christmas as OCUK had no stock when I ordered.
