I posted a thread looking for ideas for a build a few months back but I ended up postponing my build because of work.

I have been perusing the store and have come up with a build myself and I'm looking for some advice. This build will mainly be used for gaming, audio and video editing and light 3D modelling. I would prefer an Intel CPU and nVidia GPU though I am open to buying an AMD GPU if that would suit me better. I will require at least 120GB SSD. I also require a 23-24" monitor.

Feel free to criticize my poor choice of components; I am, after all, a novice builder.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £175.99
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Superclocked 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £167.99
1 x Samsung S24B300HL 23.6" Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £129.95
1 x Corsair Vengeance Red 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600Mhz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10R) £109.99
1 x Samsung 120GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Desktop and Notebook Kit - (MZ-7TD120KW) £89.99
1 x Asus P8Z77-V LX Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £82.99
1 x Corsair 2013 Edition Gamer Series GS 700W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020064-UK) £79.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD1002FAEX) HDD £76.99
1 x Cooler Master CM-690 II Lite Dominator Case - Black £62.99
1 x Samsung SH-118AB/BEBE SATA 18x DVD-ROM (Black) - OEM £11.99
Total : £1,005.36 (includes shipping : £13.75).

I am aware that Hasbro will be out shortly and this will drive down the price of IB processors somewhat. I will not be actually purchasing my components until Hasbro is released.

*EDIT*

I've updated my prospective build, I will do a little more research before I settle on a final spec. I'm not really looking to bump this post, I just want my cart listed for future reference.

Yeah I have a copy of W7 pro. I assume you meant I should choose between 8GB and 16GB ram right? I think 8GB would be enough for me but I think 16GB would make a nice cushion.

I see a lot of people suggesting the MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Boost Edition 3072MB (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-190-MS) for builds with a similar budget. Is that something I should consider? I read that the advanced physx on newer nVidia gpus makes a big difference to 3D modelling, can anyone shed some light on this?

The amount of ram and your choice of Gpu, all depends on the editing and 3D software applications you will be using.
The 7870 I specced can be OCed to stock 7950 speeds, thus making it better value in regards to your budget.
To be honest, don`t know to much about rendering, editing or 3D but I think the 7870 would be good enough for gaming and your other uses. Hopefully someone with more knowledge in this area will be along to correct me if I am wrong.:)
Check out some forums in regards to the applications you will be using, you may get better advice.
