Hello,

My car was involved in a hit and run while parked outside. I at the time had no driver details or camera footage. I call my insurance to log the incident and reported it to the police.
Fast forward a couple of months the police got the guy on a camera from a shop and he been issued a driver safety awareness course £180 out his pocket.
The police will not provide me driver details I must claim through insurance or get a solicitor.

In the meantime before getting the driver details I have spent £476 on repairs out my own pocket because I didn't want to claim on my own insurance because that would go down as a fault and I would need to pay my excess and loose NCD.

Now the driver has come forward and wants to exchange details but I have already paid for repairs I can ask hi to pay me the loss of money or can I still go through his insurance to get reimbursement for repair cost?

im suprised he even came forward ! ?

my guess would be not to go through insurance, if you've already paid, then surely you just want the money, so even if you get either the full amount or say £400 off him, its better than nothing!

I am surprised he come forward also. I can only assume he doesn't want to be more effected with future insurance if I managed to claim against him and police record.

That is the thing I would be happy to just accept the money but I do not know yet until I speak with him directly tomorrow. He just knocked this afternoon and spoke with my wife's mum.

If he refuses to pay then I go through his insurance I guess.
But that is my question can I claim just the money back?

I do have a full police record, even footage "that I haven't seen"
I also have the receipt of the work from the garage that I can hand over to the insurance company.

I won't be going through my insurance it will be his insurance that I will claim against.
It's just I am new to all of this and I am not sure if I am able to claim for my own cost.

I guess I just expect the money is a loss.
