Afternoon all just looking for some advice I’ve been speaking to a lad at work and even more confused about the whole installing software locations and start up programs

Just ordered all my parts this morning including Windows 8.1..

In my build ill have a 250gb SSD and a 3TB hdd.

In my head all I want on the SSD is Windows 8, Photoshop (bridge, light room and PS), and MS Office, along with Internet security (undecided which one yet) the rest of my not so used photography programs will be installed on the other HDD as they don’t need to be super-fast.

He agrees this is the right thing to do but then confused me with making sure that all other default locations i.e. my docs and all the other programs default install / save on the secondary HDD

How do I make sure this happens??

I appreciate this may be a long winded explanation and thanks for the help.

Have a read here:

Basically you just want to create your user profiles to a second disk, so any work you save etc is automatically stored on the second drive, otherwise it defaults to C: and you'll have to browse to the relevant location each time.

Brilliant thanks for this, I’ve read through it on my phone at work and by the sounds of it, it then would just install all programs on the SSD and only my docs and user profiles on the HDD

I’m I wrong to think that installing all programs on the SSD would eventually slow it down that’s why I was just going to keep it to a minimum of my most important programs?????

is there a way of installing just my important ones on the SSD then the less important ones on the secondary HDD?

Thanks for your help.... I've just followed this and its worked but it seems to be set as a default to save downloaded files to _exe not .exe

You'll be fine sticking all programs on the SSD. It'll be a looong time before you get any kind of slow down. Besides surely you want all your programs to open almost instantly? :D
