Hi, I am new here and signed up to get some advice regarding cooling.
I have a dual athlon MP system in a full tower case which I am in the process of modding for practical reasons as opposed to asthetic.
I am mounting a 120mm fan on the side panel (which I am having to modify first) which will force cold air straight onto the CPUs, however I need to replace the fans on my cpus as they are incredibly loud (I would guess about 70+ dB each) so I need to find something with high cfm throughput but preferably <30dB and with a long lifespan (since the box is a server and is powered up 24/7).
The current fans on the cpu's are 60mm but they are spring mounted as opposed to screwed in. Basically a spring clip hooks under a lip on either side of the heat sink and hooks into the screw holes on the bottom of the fan.
The case the system is in at the moment is just temporary as I need to get the server up asap. I eventually plan to build an aluminium server cube (eatx form factor) which I am planning to anodize myself and will be custom designed and built by myself from 1.5mm aluminium. But for now I just need to get past the noise issues with the current cpu fans until I have all the equipment for the cube case.
