Hi Guys,

As title, looking for a little help.

Trying to touch up a stone chip come scratch on the front bumper that has gone down to the black plastic. It's about 15mm wide end to end, maybe 1.5mm high at most and as deep as the factory paint.

No matter how much or how little paint I apply, no matter whether I leave it 10 mins or overnight, the blending solution always takes off all the paint leaving me back where I started. Same with smaller stone chips too. I've tried filling in just the chip using a cocktail stick, then trying to make it flush. Also tried dipping my finger in the pot and dabbing on a larger blob to cover it. Same result.

Not sure if I'm too jam fisted with the blending solution or my rubbing technique.

Anyone who has had decent results care to enlighten me as to their method?

Much appreciated.

I had to a do a few stone chips when I picked up my CX-5, despite the guy telling me that a 4 month old car with 7K on it hadn't picked up a single stone chip, I found about 10 all over the bonnet/bumper, mostly tiny, but all down to the primer.

From my own experience, I'd say you might well be being too strong with the blending solution, I put a small amount on the supplied cloth and almost no pressure at all, almost wafting it over.. You can see the paint very very very slowly being removed when doing this, and it takes patience, because a few times I've just rubbed harder, and then it removes everything..

I then let it dry for a day or so before claying and polishing, the worst scratch was 10mm long on the door, that is almost invisible now, the only noticeable stone chip is the one that actually put a micro dent in the bonnet.

Thanks. I'm not liberal with the blending solution, certainly not like the youtube chipex videos! That said I tend to use the foam pad in the cloth and put blending solution on to cover the size of the face of the foam pad. Will try less blending solution and less pressure.
