hello

i am wanting to setup a wireless network so i can share my internet from my computer downstairs with my laptop upstairs

will be to play online games/download things ect

i have wireless on my laptop but not my computer and i have an adsl connection

i have read abit but all this compatability with 802.11g/802.11a has made my head spin abit just wondering what would be the most cost effective way of going about doing it, what equipment i need ect.

my laptop is a xps m1710

sorry i dont have a clue anymore would it be possible to

plug the router into the phoneline in one room then use my laptop and computer with a card to pickup the internet like router in 1 room on its own computer in another ect... or do you have to have a computer wired into the router?

and it is an adsl router i would be needing right?

Right where your main computer is connect the ethernet cable from your pc (network card) to port 1 on the router.

Connect the ADSL phone line to the router ADSL modem port

make sure the lights come on etc and wait 1min or something so it can sync itsself


192.168.1.1 in to IE

it should bring up a box for a username + password

fill in your isp details and make sure that you can connect properly, there should be a menu to see if you are connected or not once you are done

go to the wireless settings and setup

SSID - this can be anything you want "Dazzaaaaaa"

Make sure you have WEP or WPA setup also , this is a password for your laptop to access.

save the settings

goto your laptop and use the windows xp wireless utility that it comes with.(As your laptop has built in WiFi you wont need the adaptor)

make a new connection , WEP/ WPA whichever you use. enter the password ...thats it!

If the Adaptor is for another computer then install the software and use the same key as you have on the laptop.
