Hey all... i have been struggling for a week or 2 with my computer trying to figure out what is wrong.. and i am about to buy a new motherboard / cpu / ram. But before i do i thought it would be a good idea to get another opinion, so here it goes

a month ago i was on holiday and left my computer on, i came home with it crashed and the hdd had failed. So i got a nice new 1tb samsung one. put it in and got all installed and then my computer just started randomly turning off... no warning or anything.. just switched off. (it happened while playing games, on facebook, and even over night when no one was on it) So i tried a few things to stop this happening. different mobo drivers / gfx drivers. pulled everything out and gave it a clean, resat the ram, different gfx card and reinstalled windows.

nothing helped. i know i really need to test the psu and possibly resit the cpu too.. but these are harder to do. Shound i try these first? or can i assume the mobo / ram is the problem?

My system is
amd athlon dual core 4200+
msi k8n neo4 (nforce4)
2gig ram
geforce 8800gts
460w enermax psu

thanks for any help or advice you can give :)

ok... so i went away from the help and replaced my psu.. i assumed it was very old and was a easy and cheapish place to start... it came today. installed it all and turned on the computer...
i was enjoying playing anno1404 before i started getting all these issues and loaded it up to test out the new psu (anno crashed the computer every time)

all was good for about 10 mins.. then bang.. off the computer went...

any more suggestions.. im gonna try pulling out some ram see if that helps at all

the test is running... 10 mins in the cores are sitting at around 61 and 58 going up and down 2/3 oc.

soooo i thought i will i will bring this back alive as my computer is still randomly turning off. There are specific times when it does it, today it likes to thiswhen i try and open youtube. Other times are when a game has finished loading and is about to let me play. It seamed like it helped if i laid the computer on the side and let the game load.. i was able to play anno1404 for 3 hours the other night. but today... nothing. I have replaced the psu, used different gfx cards, reinstalled windows, triple checked that nothing is over heating.

this leaves me with a few options left. some time last year the southbridge fan started making a terrible noise, so i disconnected it. im wondering if maybe the southbridge is overheating now? as i did replace the hdd which might of changed something. I am thinking of getting a new fan and replacing it before i go replacing everything else

I have a feeling im going to have to replace some more stuff but i just want to be as sure as i can before i go out spending more money (which i dont really have)

thanks for any help or suggestions
