Looking for something for emulation.

My hobby is emulation. Not that I play emulated games all that much mind you. But there is just something about getting it all setup on a device and it works. Then moving onto the next device and setting it up there. Dont know why I love doing that so much.

My dream system is to have one device that can run everything. Even the newer emulated platforms. From what I can tell you would need a good mid range CPU with at least a Gtx 1650 with about 16 gigs of ram. With that you can run GTA 5 at medium to high at about 60 fps. So it will cover most of the stuff on my steam account. And can run the more demanding emulations like rpcs3.

But it is the form factor that I am looking for. I have seen a number of pre built machines that has those specs in a rather small form factor. But they never have space for a mechanical drive. What I would like is something about the size of a PS2. It is basically a laptop build but with the space for a 12 TB hardrive. Basically. One box with EVERYTHING(!!!!) on it.

So I can setup it up. make sure it all works. Then have it sit under my 70 inch tv gathering dust. I know. That is wierd.

Any advice on where to look for something like that?

Cheers

Surely some sort of NUC would be good? Like a PC version of a Mac mini

This is how it begins, then before you know it, they are breeding like tribbles and you have 5. The same seems to be true of Pi’s. Intel iGPU is great for some things, but not really for others, yes Intel offer AMD GPU options, but they’re not generally cheap. A Shield can be a better buy if you want small/silent and offers a lot more than just emulation, but with some caveats, a small ITX build is a lot more flexible.

:D

Actually, come to think of it, have you tried getting UnRAID to be an emulator?

Not personally, but it’s easy enough to run a VM and pass through a GPU etc. I can imagine scenarios where direct hardware access would be more desirable, but it’s certainly possible.

I think you're best suited with a Cube ITX case.
I made something similar (for a different purpose), using a Cooler Master Elite 110 case.
Though, this one looks a little more interesting.

Looks like you can get GTX 1660's in there with a full-sized PSU, eg.

Is only 168mm long (from manufacturers website)

The drawback is that you're very limited in CPU cooler options.

I'm not sure you could fit it anything smaller and still have adequate airflow.

That kolink is a cute case, but not so little!

It stretches the definition of portability like a 1980's mobile phone, but it is the smallest I could think of that didn't have everything already integrated.
He already mentioned a laptop, so recommending that wouldn't be any help. Though a laptop/external storage would probably be the most compact.
