I've got a fairly old Sony STR-DH810 receiver and usually just play music thriough YouTube to the TV which inputs to the receiver. I'm looking at connecting my phone via another means to stream the likes of spotify if required.

Whats recommended? A bluetooth receiver or such like?

The cheapest and easiest way to do this IMO is an Echo Dot which can be connected by a 3.5mm to RCA lead. For a digital (optical) output you could use an older Apple TV and airplay from your phone.

I never really thought of that. Could be one way of doing it I suppose

What’s your budget? There are a few options :)

I don't really have a budget, happy to spend the money for a nice solution.

Google's chromecast audio works great for me although they've stopped making them and consequently they seem to be going up in price.

I may look into that option. I've a pixel 5 so assume it may work better with that?

You can’t buy Chromecast Audios anymore unfortunately :( Only on eBay, where prices are heavily inflated.

I believe Yamaha offer a product with musicast built in :)

Yeah I had a couple of spare audio chromecasts gathering dust, I was amazed I could sell them for twice what I purchased them for. Just looked at the Yamaha WXAD-10 out of curiosity, that looks quite a bit more spendy than the chromecast and less versatile although looks to cover Spotify, deezer, tidal. Seems mad that Google stopped producing the audio chromecast when none of their smart speakers have audio out.

I've ended up ordering a Chromecast audio from CEX for £40. I didn't see the point in opting for the Yamaha for the amount of times I'm actually in there really.

The Echo Dot is easy, but the DAC in it is complete ass.

I say this as someone that has an Echo Dot plumbed into a B&W A7 which makes me sad, but I haven't got round to finding a better solution. Just needs to play BBC radio, and spotify connect.

Chromecast or Fire Stick. I've got both and they work fine for Spotify. I think I use the Fire Stick more often. It works really well and the Spotify app itself is well-made so you just control it from there if you don't want the TV on.

Oh yes it’s not an audiophile solution by any means, but it’s really straightforward and reasonably cheap.

As above, I've ordered a Chromecast audio for £40.
If I decide I need something more substantial, I'll likely change to the Yamaha WXAD-10.

Thanks everyone!
