For the past few occasions i've built systems myself but this time im open to having someone else do the heavy lifting,

If anyone is open to spending some time to helping me come up with a build then i'd be very grateful!

Thanks, It will be 100% a gaming rig,

Build is rig only, no monitors or peripherals,

I'm currently on a 2 year old 5700xt + Ryzen 3700x, its giving me a number of "something is screwed up in your hardware" errors, so im planning on cleaning the slate with that one and making it my VR rig and building a fresh one,

Don't care about fancy cooling or RGB, it should be functional vs pretty and if it needs higher end cooling, AIO etc then great but if a boring, ugly, less glittery part would work better then i care more about that...

Budget wise im looking at about 2-3k for it but can go over that if needed,

Thinking 8gbx2 for ram, unless there is a draw to 32? Unsure on speeds or if ddr4 vs ddr5 is worth it, open to recommendations,

Primary SSD, 2tb should do it

Cooling, im open to recommendations

Mobo, again open to recommendations

Power, dont plan to add anything else in so a gold ratee PSU with the wattage i need is good, unless there is a better option,

Case, dont care, open to whatever works

CPU, ive been an AMD fanboy for both cpu and gpu for awhile but keen to take the red cap off and go with what performs over what feels nice, so im open to either Intel or AMD for CPU and Nvdia or AMD for gpu

Seems like Intel, i9-12900k would be going up against Ryzen 9 5900x, but again im open to suggestions as this is just my summary research,

GPU, it seems like the 3080 would be up against the RX 6800 XT and again im not sure if these are the best choices for my budget or there are better recommendations. I'd love to see what a ray tracing capable card could do, but not essential,

I'm not a fan of losing a lot of money with big diminishing returns, but am happy to pay for higher than average on GPU and CPU and key parts if i get some good performance,

If availability and price is good with OC, id love to have them do all the work for me too,

Hi

What resolution are you gaming at ?
Good question,

1440p / 144hz
Im running an MSI 27inch IPS panel that i love for it, id be tempted to move back to 60hz for 4k but everything i hear and see tells me that would be a bad idea,

So for now, until 4k 60hz+ gaming becomes a thing, ill stick to 1440p

Thanks

I updated it as follows

Swapped out the ram to 32gb, cpu and gpu are the same, i like the choices there, i swapped out to the best 850w option i could see, dropped windows,

So the only thing im not sure about is the case and cooling,

It defaults to a case which appears to have front fans, am i to assume it would be built with front fans and then flow coming in and going out the top via the top radiator and fans?

I dont know good case and cooling manufacturers but the brands dont jump out, are the ones in my link above effective or is there a better option to go for?

and the Mobo, the one picked is out of stock, what is the best in stock option id want to go with?
And did i miss anything else worth addressing?

Are you going with the Gigabyte RTX 3080 ? as it looks like it is £170 cheaper than the MSI one.

The Phanteks P500 Air is a good case. I would go with something like the Scythe Fuma 2 as it is a really good value cooler for half the price of a Noctua. If you do want an AIO then the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 420mm is currently £89.99. The P500 Air lists support for a 420mm in the front. So the two included case fans would be for exhaust at the top/rear, and the AIO as intake.

Out of the psu list I would go with the Seasonic Focus GX 850W. Just not a fan of anything Kolink.

The Asus Z690-P D4 would be fine with that cpu although it is lower down the product stack than the TUF Gaming. The MSI Z690 Tomahawk is also a good board but out of stock. You could ask them if they have an ETA.

I can't see anything else wrong. Hopefully a few other people will chip in before you order.

In that build, 3800 gigabyte wasnt in the config, sure you didnt see the 3070? Fairly sure the MSI is cheapest 3080 right now and performs reasonably across the 3080 range on reviews,

Lian-Li seems to be the best AIO in the parts list, i hadnt heard of them before but after seeing it here and checking out a Gamer Nexus review of it, it fares well against the Artic option, and better than most others for temps,

First time using an AIO so hoping it does well,

Overall the biggest questions are the MOBO, the one in the config given up above is out of stock and since im looking to act on this pretty quick, not looking to hang around waiting on a 2-4 week turnaround with Christmas coming,

Right now the core parts of the build are i7-12700kf which is amazing as silver medal behind the I9 12900K right now and does better, as far as i can see by all but the 5950x from AMD, so price to performance its the better cpu option,

GPU is a tougher situation because of chip shortage, 3090 is out of the question so either i add extra to getting a 6900xt which seems to perform just ahead of the 3080 but at a poorer price/performance basis or i stick with 3080 as there isnt enough in it between them to justify an extra £200 when im already looking at 50% above MSRP due to the shortage,

3080ti is a joke so thats out and there is no beneficial comparison between 6800xt and 3800,

I cant think of any reason why i wouldnt take the 3080 as the absolute best option under the circumstances,

As long as i have good enough cooling and power which seems like i do then i think im set,
