Looking for tips on installing Windows 8

Just wanted to see how people install Windows 8.

Do any remove the 100MB system reserved partition on a fresh install?

Is there a way of slipstreaming Windows 8 yet so I can delete unused apps and install drivers etc from the off?

Just after pointers and to see if I can speed the whole process up any.
 
The process is very streamlined. Just leave the reserved partition it's there for a reason and 100mb is nothing on today's drives, even a small SSD.

The time and effort slipstreaming anything into the install process is not worth it for one machine.
 
This is how I did it:
Installed win 8
Had a play on it
Removed the POS
Stick with win 7

Really easy to do and never had a problem:)
 
Unplug all other hard drives

Set SATA ports as AHCI in the BIOS, put the HDD / SSD on Port 0 (first port).

Boot from your Windows 8 DVD/USB stick.


Leave the 100mb partition there, what harm does it do?

Win8 install is straight foward and quick,ignore the anti-8 trolls unfortunately they get everywhere and offer nothing constructive when they do post and get off topic like here.
 
Just install as normal, there's nothing fancy to it. If you have a SSD, make sure your SATA ports are set to AHCI though.

Ignore the trolls. A whole 30mins to decide on a new OS? Genius.

Don't forget the AHCI drivers before the initial install. As the stock Windows AHCI drivers are from 2006. Plus I've found once you let Windows 8 install the stock drivers, Windows wont allow you to update. It tells you the current drivers are best suited and wont proceed to install anything newer.

It's almost identical to Windows 7 in day to day usage. It's improved in many areas also, especially multiple monitor setups.

I've not met anyone yet who has been able to level genuine criticism of Windows 8 enough to warrant downgrading to Windows 7. It does some things different, you do not have to use Charms or Metro (I do not) and otherwise it's almost the same. So other than the "OH NOES I HAVE TO SHUTDOWN AND REBOOT IN A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT MANNER......WINDOWS 8 SUXX0RZ!!!!" I have no idea what you are on about.
 
At least people who are paying the $5 are putting their money where their mouth is when they complain about the lack of start menu.

Nice tip ;) Do I just put the AHCI drivers onto a USB stick?
