Looking for upgrade advice

Hi i'm looking to upgrade my current set of cards for something better, currently i have two amd 6870s in crossfire.

What i'm looking for is a single gpu solution which is quiet and very cool, my current setup while decent tends to get very loud and hot when i play stuff on high settings.

I'm looking to spend about £300-£400

I'm willing to try nvidia or AMD but i was wondering what i would need to do to switch over to nvidia in terms of drivers.
Any advice is appreciated.

Uninstall AMD drivers via the control panel, then install the latest drivers from the Nvidia website. Nothing else should be required.

Having said that, I would recommend a 7950 :

What is the spec of your system (cpu / ram / overclock / res)?

It's a i5-2500k/ 8gb ram/ i run most things at 1600x1200. My Cpu used to be overclocked at 4.6ghz but it took it off for the moment.

Also i was hoping for something that will last a while, something like a 7970 or gtx 670 680 etc.

A 7950 will easily overclock to 7970 / 680 speeds, and will only take a few minutes and cost you nothing for your effort. The 7970 and 680 do not represent good value for money; you'll pay more money for around 5% more grunt (at stock). If you are dead set on going for an Nvidia gpu, then look at the 670's :

Below, are the ones I would consider if buying atm, and I should think the Gigabyte, KFA2 & MSI would be the quieter models. All of those brands have good customer service, too.

Thanks for your advice guys, I think i'm going to get a 670 or 7950, Probably a 670 either asus or gigabyte.

Go for Gigabyte or EVGA purely for warranty and RMA. You will not be disappointed with a 670.

As for drivers, I would be inclined to install either 306.23 or 306.97. By all means try the latest 310.90 drivers but a few compatability issues/less performance in some instances.
