Looking Glass me a Turn Based Strategy Game

I'm looking for a new turn based strategy game (not real time run around and attack RTS jobbies) that will keep me playing for hours on end, as I'm bored of the usual options, such as Civ 4, Total War etc.

Anybody got any recommendations for any turn based strategy games?

I agree if you getting into the TBS might as well start with the best! Look out for the add on pack as well!

Battle For Middle Earth 2 has a turnbased Strategy scenario thing. Its actually pretty fun.

Its no where near as complicated or as lengthy as the total war series though.

i can recommend combat mission.there are three versions,beyond overlord,barbarossa to berlin and afrika corps.made by serious long term board gamers for pc its a superb game that has a strong community and thousands of battles and mods.

Into WW2 era stuff at all?

Check out Operational Art of War, possibly the century of warfare edition may be the only 1 reasonably easy to find now.

It's old, but models WW2 pretty well for ground battles and some air cover - naval is a bit rubbish tho, destroyers repeatedly trash battleships and cruisers... ah well, cant have it all. Should be cheap and run on any rig tho
