Hi guys :D I'm after some advice for buying my first 5.1 set-up. It's only going to be for a bedroom gaming/movie set-up so doesn't have to be a beast, I have like £600 to spend all together.
I don't know whether to go for a full set-up/blu-ray combo All-in-one or buy an A/V receiver and different speakers etc. Any ideas?

Yeah don't but an all in one there pretty poor in comparison to a proper av set up and with a decent entry level set up costing under £300 its a no brainer.

For example PIONEER VSX329 @£130 and TANNOY SFX5.1 @£150 , £280 for a proper entry level av set up which will out perform the all in one every time, of course there are better amps and speakers if you wanted to spend the full 600 but that is a starting point

Edit, if I was in your position and had the £600 to spend I would get an amp for around 150 and spend the remaining on speakers

The above is a great suggestion, I went with that amp and stuck it with a set of Boston acoustics xs 5.1

Couldn't be happier with it for the money fantastic little setup
