Due to me doing 20,000+ miles per year due to my job it looks like i may have to get rid of the Clio.

I also like the drive of torquey diesel engines. I've been looking at getting a 2.0TDCI Modeo like the one http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/ww...ry=cars&channel=DEALERPAGE&id=200734293754806

My Clio is a jan 2005 (54 plate) with 26,000 miles, Full renault service history, cup packs etc.. and i think its worth ~£7,500 - £8,000 maybe.

I don't want to add any money to the deal (hopefully get some back :D )

I have no idea of the different models of Mondeo. Is the LX the basic model? Whats the 2.0TDCI engine like in these? Is it for sale at a reasonable price?

This Mondeo looks like its got had boxes ticked on optional extras with those full leather seats.

Any advice, suggestions of different cars are welcome. I was also looking at the Audi A4, but i think i will get a better spec/newer modeo for same amount of cash.

cheers

That car has the wrong interior photograph - the interior is from a Ghia X - and it's shockingly cheap for a '55 plate.

can't fault my '03 mondeo TDCi, would just check the bushes and for wind noise at high speed, though i think tissue out before the car you're looking at. Even the LX what you are looking at is well specced for the base model, cruise as standard, cd radio, airbags all round, auxiliary port for your Ipod etc. See if you can find a Zetec for around the same price, you get alloys and front fogs then which makes it look better, though i'm not a fan of the zetec alloys. :)

Try and get a ghia or ideally ghia x model - the don't seem to command much of a price premium, but they are rarer and tend to shift quicker so you have to be quick when a good one becomes avaliable.

Alternately a zetec s has a nicer body kit, but you have to do without leather seats. They're also quite hard to come by in tdci form.

I've got an LX and the spec is very good when compared to other brands. IT doesn't have cruise control though...
the 2.0TDCI is a decent engine. I return 50mpg with mixed driving. It has enough poke for me to say I bought it as a boring runaround.

'52 plate 2.0 TDCi LX here, can't say any more than what's been said here already. Great car for the money and it hasn't even skipped a beat yet.

I have a 2003 52 plate "graphite" (basically an LX with alloys!) as my daily runner and can't fault it.

Very comfy and quiet on the motorway, sound system is good for standard, easy to drive, excellent fuel economy - never below 45 mpg even if driven like you are on fire and i have had 62 mpg on a brum to durham run at 2.5 k revs (approx 80 on speedo, 77 on sat nav.) Only slight gripe is that the view isn't great when you are reversing.

Rear bushes need watching, and some apparantly had problems with rust at the bottom of the doors, but if you are looking 05/55 plate should have no worries.

DEFINATELY recommended as a bargain mile eater.

The Mondeo would be a far better choice than an awful MPV like the C-Max (Focus based too) IMO

The c-max is an awful mpv, but as a slightly scaled up focus its quite nice. I expected to hate them, but they certainly have their own charm. I'd certainly reccomend at least having a look at one before discounting it.

What about these

Vauxhall Signum 2.2DTi or the 1.9CDTi 150ps
Pugeot 407 2.0d 138ps

So far i like the following

Ford Modeo 2.0 TDCI 2.0 130bhp
Audi A4 1.9TDI 130bhp
Vauxall Signum 2.2 or 1.9CDTI 150
Pugeot 407

I think im going to have £6,000 - £7,500 to spend (or whatever i get for my 182)

I would like leather seats and all the models i looked at come with air con as standard.

Signum feels very cheap inside, it's as if somebody has literally thrown loads of kit in with no real care. The plastics are cheap and the leather feels very fake.

Loaded with stuff though, and quite bargainous.

I've been looking more and more at the 407 se 2.0HDI 136ps. Even the 1.6 HDI engined model has 110ps.

I like the shape and it looks well equiped, has anyone driven one?

A remap looks tasty aswel, adding 30bhp to the 1.6 HDI engine.

One of my work mates has just bought a 407 2.0HDI. Must say i am quite impressed, loaded with kit and wasnt too expensive. Build quality seems good, nice looking all round good car imo.

Go and see one, i'd have one over a mondeo personally.
