Looking like it might be upgrade time.

Looking for a card to pair with a fx8350 for 1080p gaming.

I currently have a 7950, but it has started running incredibly hot and loud. I'm just gonna replace it.

Looking to spend £250 tops. Would love it to fairly quiet!

Cheers.

Clean it? :)

Yeah I've spent all weekend trying to get it up to scratch(cleaned the whole rig up as well!), but it hasn't done the job unfortunately.

I can't get it to idle less than 40(which isn't bad, but could be better), and it has been hitting over 90 in some of the more graphically intensive games. After cleaning it, the temps have come down a bit, but I did hit 84 earlier after just 10 minutes of Dragon age Inquisition!

Fair enough. Could try adding some fresh paste, but regardless, if the performance isn't enough you could wait until the 300 series is released to see how that shakes up prices. Otherwise, if buying right now you could go for a 290 or 780ti / 970 (maybe). The 290 would probably be the least costly option, though.

Did one of the fans die on it? I had one crap out on my MSI 7950 which I only noticed by unusually high 80-90 degree temps under load. Went to the fleabays for a replacement and all was good again.

Christ!...that never even occurred to me. I've just opened up my case and one of my fans wasn't spinning. I tested a few fan speeds with Afterburner and the front one only starts spinning when I set it above 90%!

I could really do without this 2 days before GTAV comes out:(

PS. It's a Twin Frozriii btw.

I would honestly go for the 970 over a 290 if you can. I crossgraded from my 290 to a 970 and my performance had a noticeable increase.

Yeah that is the one I am looking at!

...Never had an Nvidia card

Just don't be surprised when you only see one fan spinning on that 970 because it does that at idle. Quite a few other 970s do that because they stay so cool that the fans are not needed at idle. The Gigabyte G1 970 I used to have was cool and quiet even though all the fans spin at idle.
