Evening Overclockers,

I am looking to add a new card to my system just wondering first of all which card is better. And secondly if they will X-Fire properly?

My current rig is:

1. Processor - Intel Sandybridge i5-2500K Unlocked Core i5 Quad-Core Processor (3.30GHz, 6MB Cache, Socket 1155)

2.Motherboard - AsRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 Motherboard, Socket 1155, PCI-Express 3.0, DDR3, USB 3.0, HDMI, 7.1 HD Audio, ASRock Instant Boot

3.Memory (RAM) - Corsair CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9B 16GB (4x4GB) 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Vengeance Blu Memory Four Module Kit

4.Hard drive(s) - Samsung 120GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic + Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 ATA Device (931 GB)

5.Graphics card(s) - Asus Radeon R9 290 "Voltage Unlocked" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

6.Power supply (PSU) - Seasonic G series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply

7.Case - BitFenix Ghost Silent Tower Case - Black

8. Cooling - Corsair Hydro H110 280mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler

I am upgrading my Mobo and CPU to this:

Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 - Devils Canyon Core i7 4790K CPU & Motherboard Bundle **£25 Saving**

And the 2 cards I'm torn between are:

1) Asus Radeon R9 390X DC3 OC Strix 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

2) MSI Radeon R9 390 Gaming Edition 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Sorry about the dodgy links, my cart viewer doesn't seem to be working.

So which card would you recommend and would I have any issues?

Thanks in advance :D

Do you mean you want to add one of the 390 cards and xfire it with your existing 290?
I think that will technically work but I wouldn't recommend it. Your current card is a 4GB card and the newer ones are both 8GB so they will be limited to only using 4GB like your existing card. The 390 cards aren't much faster then your 290 so it's not worth replacing your existing card with one either, in your situation I'd recommend looking for a cheap second hand 290 to go with your current card instead.

Yeah the Vapour-X cards are regarded as being pretty much the best versions of the 290s. If you have to have new then it might be worth looking around for any clearance deals.
