Which CPU should I be looking at, as cheap as possible, in order to run ark, I would be happy to look second hand if you's have any particular models I could look out for. Looking to build a nice budget PC for my brother to run ark on, will be on a server on probably a 1920x1080 monitor and will be paired with a 580/680 sort of GPU.
Any help is appreciated cheers!

Used 2500k + an overclock capable board could be had cheap if your willing to wait for the right seller.

I don't know if things have improved, but when I was playing ark a while back, it was a heavily unoptimised game that wanted all the CPU power you could throw at it.

I vaguely remember hearing that. The patch notes are full of CPU optimisations, hopefully it's a lot better now.

Edit: also obviously worth reminding it's still in development so performance will change, but for now it seems to prefer Intel CPUs. e.g. http://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/361787186439274770/

my other half's cousin plays this on a Haswell Pentium and the game absolutely obliterates his CPU. I didn't believe him but sure enough the game takes an age to load and maxes out at 100% cpu usage.

I'd get nothing less than a Sandybridge i5 personally.

Mates have been playing it recently and even an overclocked FX6350 was fine when compared to a Haswell Core i7. However,it needs a lot of graphics power to run - I would say something along the lines of an R9 290/390 or a GTX970.

recent optimisations have been pretty great tbh, it's running a lot smoother than it did a few months back. (CPU as per sig)
I would say however that the GPU requirement is still pretty high, I went from 670 SLI to 780ti mostly for this game, and run with a few settings turned down a bit (shadows on low, zero sky quality, but resolution scale on max at 1080p on a 1440 screen - res scale is single most important IMO, but also kills framerate).
btw, no SLI profile, so only one 670 was used, and I was limited to settings I wasn't happy with. I think the internet has come up with some custom profiles now if you can be bothered to fiddle.

Depends on whether you are running an Ark Server or the full blown client game ?

I run my Arc Server on a 4GB Intel NUC. Silent and works perfectly.

I play on a 5960 @ 4.4Ghz and 32GBRam with GTX980 and run Epic settings at 1080p

I've been playing Ark for sometime now on various devices, I personally think you need an I5 + 16gb ram, I've seen it run quite poorly on anything less than 16gb.

Always makes me sad when someone lays a lot of money on a PC trying to get it to play a **** poor unoptimised alpha game well.

I did it with DayZ. Build this PC to try and get DayZ to run smooth at decent graphics. Because its such a badly made game, still doesn't run smooth.

Whereas GTAV runs smooth as butter everything maxed out.
