Hello all, I'm looking to build a power efficient server for Plex, File sharing, running multiplayer game servers and just generally tinkering with.

I have a rough idea on the parts that I'm going to use with the server being ITX/MATX but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or reccomendations for server parts etc as you can never have too much advice :D.
Also I know the basket total is over £300 but some of the items in the basket are just place holders as OCUK don't stock them :(

Total: £308.00
(includes shipping: £11.10)

As always any help is greatly appreciated :)

You can get a Dell PowerEdge T20 *right now* with Xeon E3-1225 v3 for £169 after cash-back.
Damn, that price is very very tempting :D
I'd go with the Poweredge option when both are on the table next to each other - it ticks all your boxes for basic server duties
It is tempting but the only issue is could it cope as a game server if I chucked some more RAM in it :)

With the money spare I'd probably just dual up 2 of the slots with 16gb of ECC (premium over a standard DIMM is negligible to not warrant doing it) and stick a WD red in (3 or 4 tb) to get going with.

You're right about the costs of ECC vs Non-ECC being negligable. Thanks for everyones help and I shall look into purchasing the server tonight :D

Just a quick update as I ended up going for the cheaper Pentium server as I very much doubt I will use the Xeons extra features and the saved cash can go towards an SSD and some more memory. Thanks to everyone who helped :)

EDIT: I have since changed my mind and gone with the Lenovo TS140 as the other server offer had ended but I found out my server needed more power after everyone else in the house decided they wanted to stream from the servers Plex library. Typical I would be told this once the offer ends

The cashback for the model with the Xeon... has INCREASED to #110, from #70 and is valid until the end of February - I just checked on Dell's website.

The only problem now is searching for somewhere that still has them in stock ;)

Thats the issue as everywhere is out of stock because of the increase in cashback. :(

Still the TS140 (Although not as good an offer) is probably the best offer out there at the moment for a Xeon based server

I think I will pull the trigger on the Lenovo TS-140 as that seems more readily available than the Dell T20. Has anyone got any experience with it?

I have now that mine has arrived, it's a decent bit of kit. Has space for two 3.5" HDD inside the case with one filled. It also has to 5.25" bays with one already used by the removable laptop DVD drive. It's quiet and appears to run pretty well. :)

No it doesn't, the Dell has 4 bays...
Barely any point in buying a server with only 2x HDD bays
Oops, so it does (I missed the ones in the top :( )
Still though, I suppose you can get mounting kits to mount HDDs in the 5.25" bays of the Lenovo. Thats what I intend to do at some point in the future anyway as I can get hotswappable mounts :)
