Hello people,

I've got an old and well and truely used iPod 3rd gen 20gb, it had served me well, but alas, its in need of a replacement battery, hard drive is clicking. And I now spend upto 2 hours on a train everyday, so I'm in need of a new MP3 player
looking at the current iPod's but was wondering if anyone else had any suggestions at all.

Many Thanks

:)

if u've got a spare 1.8" hdd, i would recommend u to replace the battery and hdd urself. the battery replacement kit is available on the net..

Budget?

same price as a 30gb iPod really don't wanna spend more than that.

i'm not too sure whether iAudio is available in the UK. They are pretty good. The other brand u can look at is iRiver.

Well, if non of the above fancy you, u should stick to iPod then..

Just got a creative zen vision m, really liking it so far
Second vote for the Zen:M
Train + Zen vision:M + Movie which is funny like anchorman = AWESOME
I have LOADS OF SONGS, the Extended version of lotr two towers 3 3/4 hours long!, indiana jones, family guy movie, 6 futurama episodes, 4 lost episodes and still have 18gb left. Truly awesome

My iPod Hard Drive died as well. Most of the iPod issues are to do with the HDD crapping out within 2 years of use. Im looking for a replacement was going to wait for the 8GB Nano but thats now been delayed till Nov-Dec.

Does anyone know if the Zen is based on the same 1.8 Drive as the iPod?

Think it might be, but the size of it is about the same as the 60gb ipod video, so for half the capacity but the same size, what do you get?

You get:
Much better screen
Twice as much battery life for watching movies (due to the ipod video using a newer H.264 codec)
A bit longer music battery life

Plus, when you hold it, you dont really notice the extra size, it feels the right size, not too breakable.

Thanks for your feedback. Im not too bothered about video playback just mp3. Can you drag n drop to the device using explorer or do you have to use Creative Mediasource? Also do you happen to know if its loaded with DRM.

I have an Iaudio U2, so the flash player. I love the flash one, it's small, light and great :)

Haven't used the hard disk one, but i've read nothing but positive reviews for I audio. If ever I needed to buy one, I would have no hesitation just blindly picking one from their line.

Likewise, the 1.8" drive died in just 14 months, 2nd ipod that has done that on me so I'm now switching to creative as it can't just be a coincidence.

I dont think so, but once you have installed the software you can. But not sure about without software. Good thing i have found is that the software supplied gives you many ways to put stuff on it. You can use one of the couple of programs they give you, you can use WMP10, or even transfer by right clicking and select 'copy to zen vision:m'

dont know yet which one will work best for me.

one of the reasons i dont like ipods, they have many stories of them breaking early, and such stuff as batteries failing. Simple case of not testing enough, and planned obsolecense (spelling).

right think im gonna narrow it down to either an
iRiver

or a Creative Zen Vision: M

if anyone that owns these can give me the run down on the good and bad points that would be great, i'm gonna go off and find some reviews anyway, but i'm liking the amount of feedback from this thread :)

main differences i can see

iRiver:

Does FM Radio
Cheaper
20GB Drive
Does not do video
Better battery

ZEN:

Does Video
Bigger HDD (30GB)
more expensive.

Now i really like the look of the iRiver, plus the radio would be nice. and i doubt ill want video but it'll probably be a case of if i got the ZEN i would love the video lol

ok gonna be looking to buy by the end of the week.

can anyone reccomend one out of the 2?

Cheers guys
