Looking to buy an MX5

Hi all,

I'm looking at spending between £6k and £7k in May on one of these. I thinking possibly about the 2.0 engine. I am not sure what body kit to get, and what things to look out for when checking out the cars.

I am just starting my research but was hoping that there may be some people on here how can offer advise and suggestions.

Not really looking at a mkIII for those pennies I am afraid, good mk2.5 money. That will et you the 1.8VVTi engine (146bhp) which is plenty - it is a light car. You should not compromise for the money as well, get leather, good hood, FSH etc. Check out www.mx5nutz.com - very helpful people.

As a side note, you'd get a great mk2 turbo/suercharger for that money

I take it you are referring to the new shape 2.0l? Are these as low as £7k now. My g/f is after one too but looking at the previous shape.

Mk 2s can be had for as little as £2500 for a half decent early model or £4000 for a tidy Mk2.5 (facelifted Mk2), The bottom end Mk3s are emerging at around £7500, but if you can wait until after the summer odds are you could be driving about in a mk3 by the end of the year.

mk3s are gonna drop in price very very shortly, speaking to a dealer today he showed us the 3.5

it's out next week, and the facelift will help push prices down. That combined with waiting til oct-november should see some bargains on these.

Cheers for the tips. I really like the inside of the mk3 but I want one for the summer.

So I should be looking for leather? And from the mk2 they all have heated screens. I will sign up to that forum and investigate further. Any other extra gems I should be looking out for? Is the sat nav any good?
