I was going to buy a vostro 1700 but it appears they want nearly 4 weeks to deliver one, so my wife has told me no. Go and get one today!!!!!

These are the two i've managed to get it down to from looking around PCWORLD,Comet etc.

Which spec would you go for.

HP laptop £479

AMD Turion 64X2 Processor TL-60 (2.0 GHz, 1600 MHz, 1 MB Cache) Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium 2 GB Memory 120 GB Hard Drive Lightscribe Super Multi DVD Rewriter 17" BriteView Widescreen Display NVIDIA® GeForce 8400 Graphics Card Integrated Webcam Wireless Enabled Product Support

Tosh laptop £500

Toshiba P200-17C multimedia laptop main specifications –
• Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5450
• 1.66GHz
• 667MHz FSB
• 2MB Cache
• 2GB Memory
• 17 Inch TruBrite Widescreen Display
• Genuine Windows Vista (R) Home Premium
• DVD ReWriter MultiDrive
• 200GB Hard Drive
• Wireless Enabled
• 895MB ATI Radeon HD2400 Graphics
• 3.2Kg Weight

Any thoughts, we want it from home/light business use and for light game playing and DVD playing etc.

Or has anyone seen a better deal.

Thanks

Why does the wife say you have to get one NOW? Personally I prefer the DELL's, especially considering you can haggle for free delivery and use 10% off codes. I'm about to order an XPS1330 with T8100 for about 430 squid, I also have a Vostro 1700 and would certainly recommend waiting for one.

It's worth to note that my 1700 didn't take 4weeks as they predicted but more like 2 weeks

I ordered a Vostro 1500 and a 1700 . placed order 7th April, delivery date 18th April, 1 day before delivery got e-mail saying going to take another 4 weeks to deliver , new delivery date 20th May , When I cancelled they said they could deliver earlier but to do this they would give me my required screen from another customers order and they wolud have to wait , did`t think was fair.
I am seeing what will happen to the prices , now the Vostro range are in the 1510 now and the 1710 middle of May
Spoke to Dell today , best they can do is 9 buisness day delivery , I would phone them back and haggle , at worst you have nothing to lose

To late now to get one today, so I'll be out first thing tommrrow:(

Not 17" but seems almost Dell like in spec and cost!!!!

I'd get that one above, with the 8600M GT 256mb, very good price for that spec. Decent CPU too. Vostro 1500 is worth a look too, mine was delivered inside a week (see sig for spec, I paid £550).

that spec is better than the Dells at that price, it also has HDMI, where is that from? If it's a competitor email me ;)
