Looking to buy this System from Overclockers, please help!

Hi guys, I'm an old school pc gamer who lost his way and fell to the dark side and became a console owner for a few years. As a result I haven't kept up with the latest developments with pc hardware but I'm now ready to return to pc gaming with a passion and had my eye on this beauty from Overclockers.

A few questions for the more enlightened among you

Is 16 gig of ram too much, can I make do with 8?
Windows 8 or Windows 7?
Was thinking of getting a 7950 boost rather than stock, thoughts?
Is a SSD a necessity these days for the OS? recommendations?
Do I get Far Cry 3, and the other games with this system/ AMD card?
What's a decent 24" monitor for games and surfing?
And lastly spec me a decent illuminated keyboard and gaming mouse.

Some food for thought there, thanks guys. Is Windows 7 generally the better option then? What about DX 11.1?

I think I'll be sticking with Windows 8. I know pretty much what I'm going to be getting now. The only thing I'm struggling with is the monitor.

Well I'll actually pay a bit for a decent monitor. No point paying loads of money for a decent rig only for the display to let me down. Ideally don't want to pay more than £300. Had a look at the 120 hz BenQ's but I want something that will give me a better picture than a TN.
